The steering shaft keeps the steering gearbox and steering wheel connected. The universal joint or also called as u-joint at the end of the steering shaft connects to the steering gearbox which has another u-joint that connects to the steering wheel allows for the angles between them to be supported resulting to your vehicle wheels smooth and easy turning. The intermediate steering shaft is an important component of your vehicle.
